Day 01 | Beijing

To start off your amazing China Tour, you will leave your departure city and fly to Beijing. Meals and snacks will be provided on the plane.

Day 02 | Arriving Beijing

When you arrive in Beijing, our China local representative will meet and greet you at the airport. The local representative will transfer you to your hotel and the rest of the day is yours to explore and relax.

Day 03 | Beijing

After breakfast, we will head to Forbidden City, the former seat of the emperors throughout the Ming and Qing dynasties. It is a true architectural masterpiece and home to the National Palace Museum. After an included lunch, proceed to the Summer Palace, a former royal retreat and now a lovely part. Then visit a Chinese Herbal Institute to learn about traditional Chinese medicine.
This evening, delight in an optional banquet featuring the famous “Peking Duck”.

Forbidden City and Summer Palace
Forbidden City is the best-preserved imperial palace in China and the largest ancient palatial structure in the world. On this tour, you’ll enter the Forbidden City to learn the Imperial era of Chinese History.
Summer Palace is located on the north-western outskirts of the city, it was an imperial summer resort of the Qing Dynasty. With its perfect layout, magnificent buildings and enchanting landscape, it is the most splendid classical garden in China.

Peking-duck Banquet Dinner
Beijing Roast duck offers a relaxing atmosphere that highly complements the food it serves and takes the famous Beijing roast duck to new levels of culinary delight. When roasted and dried, the duck will look brilliantly dark red, shining with oil and with crisp skin and tender meat. Because of its appearance, few people could resist the temptation of it.

Day 04 | Beijing

Today’s highlight is an excursion to the majestic Great Wall (Juyongguan), one of the “Seven Wonders of the World”! Recognized by UNESCO, and get a chance to climb a portion of this 3,700-mile marvel. Then tour the iconic “Beijing 2008 Olympic Centre”; which includes the famous Bird’s Nest and Water Cube which now hosts many spectacular opening ceremonies and events. Although there is no tour inside these buildings, it is a magnificent architectural structure from the outside, providing a perfect photo opportunity. Visit one of the largest Jade Exhibitions in Asia en-route.

Day 05 | Beijing – Suzhou (Flight via Shanghai)

Today, we will take a tour to the “Temple of Heaven”, recognized by UNESCO as an architectural masterpiece built between 1406-1460 A.D. Used in the past by the emperors from the Ming and Qing dynasties for ceremonial honoring and praising to the gods of harvest. Afterward, take a famous rickshaw Hutong Tour & Local Family Visit, where an included local family meal will take place. During the late evenings, transportation to Suzhou via a flight to Shanghai.

Rickshaw Hutong Life & Temple of Heaven Tour
Hutong Tour: the old narrow paths with lots of courtyard homes where common people are living, they are like villages within megalopolis, through the hutongs’ teeming maze of alleyways, and you will see the old houses and learn about the daily life of ordinary Beijing citizens.
Temple of Heaven: It is the place that was visited yearly by the emperors who performed intricate rituals to ensure a good harvest for the whole nation in ancient times.

Day 06 | Suzhou to Wuxi

Suzhou–the city of paradise is also known as the Oriental Venice for its exquisite canals, bridges, pagodas, and beautiful gardens. Suzhou is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After breakfast, tour the Lingering Garden, a classic private garden with 500 years of history. Next, visit the Suzhou Silk Factory, the largest silk factory in the country to discover the mysterious processing of silk. After lunch, enjoy Optional cruise along the ancient canal from the city to the picturesque Grand Canal.

Late afternoon, continue to Wuxi, visit the Lingshan Grand Buddha, One of China’s largest Buddha statues at over 80m tall. The whole Lingshan area is a tourist attraction, with a musical fountain which plays out the story of the birth of the Buddha, as well as the Brahma palace, a very grand palace with the pillars made of sandalwood, built to host the 2009 Buddhist conference.

Enjoy a cruise along the ancient canal from the city to the picturesque Grand Canal, which is the best way to appreciate the stunning views of a water town.

Day 07 | Wuxi to Hangzhou

This morning tour the Brilliance of Lake Lihu located at Famous Lake Taihu, followed by visiting a Fresh Water Pearl Farm. Continue to Hangzhou, described by Marco Polo as “the most beautiful and magnificent city in the world”.

Day 08 | Hangzhou to Shanghai

Hangzhou, also known as the “Paradise on Earth”, has been immortalized by countless poets and artists. The West Lake Cultural Landscape has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. After breakfast, visit West Lake, the most beautiful lake in the country.

You may take an optional boat ride on the West Lake , the most renowned feature of Hangzhou, noted for its scenic beauty which blends naturally with many famous historical and cultural sites.

Then, visit No.1 Tea Plantation and taste the well-known Dragon Well Tea. Many studies say that green tea is excellent for your health. Dragon Well Tea is the best Green Tea in China. After lunch, drive to Shanghai. Walking along the famous Bund, lined by the colonial architecture of European design, this area is the best place to capture the Western influences of the old days. It is now called “Wall Street of the East”.

Boat ride at west lake
Take a boat ride on the West Lake which reveals the ethereal beauty of Hangzhou’s willow draped islands. You will admire the Su Causeway. It was built in the fifth year of Yuanyou Period in the Northern Song Dynasty (1090) and has evolved since then. At that time, Su Shi (Dongpo), a poet known as the perfect in Hangzhou Prefecture, had the West Lake dredged and built the Su Causeway by dredged silt. Hangzhou hosts The G20 summit in September 2016.

Day 09 | Shanghai

Facing the bund, and follow our Tai Chi Master, practice some Tai Chi movement to feel the bund. The Bund is the classic image of Shanghai and the city’s main attraction, a wide boulevard lined with impressive neo-classical buildings. Sweeping along the western side of the Huangpu River, these majestic buildings date back to Shanghai’s grandest days. Many banks and financial companies built impressive offices here in the early 20th century when Shanghai was the financial capital of Asia. To the financial world it was for years “Asia’s Wall Street” where fortunes were made and lost. Afterward, we will take explore the famous Xintiandi, a stylish pedestrian street composed of Shikumen architecture and modern complex. Followed by a visit to an Embroidery exhibition center. Then visit the City God Temple Bazaar, which is composed of specialty stores, selling traditional Chinese arts and crafts, medicine, and souvenirs.

At night, you may enjoy an optional “Huangpu River Night Cruise” and get a glimpse of the dazzling and charming night view of Shanghai.

  • A very good level of fitness and mobility is required for you to enjoy all aspects of the itinerary, as this is considered a fast-paced tour. While there is some free time scheduled either in the morning or afternoon, there are many full days of sightseeing with minimal rest and some early starts. You will be required to walk up and downstairs, get on and off the coach and participate in all scheduled sightseeing that may be conducted on uneven ground and terrain. Any physical ailments you may have must be disclosed at the time of booking to determine your suitability. If you have any form of walking aids, other than a walking stick or hiking poles, then this tour is not suitable.

Is it possible to extend my trip after the tour?

We can definitely assist you to extend your stay in China at the end of the trip for sure. However, since this promotion is based on Group tickets, if you extend your stay, there will be roughly $300/ticket airline charge as its no longer a group ticket. It also depends on the availability of the seats.

Which airline you are using?

We work with many major airlines like AIR CHINA, HAINAN AIRLINES, CHINA EASTERN and etc., really depends on your departure date and city. Most likely, your trip has a maximum of 1 stop.

Do I need to submit my original passport to get the Chinese Visa?

Required by the Chinese Embassy / Consulate, your original passport must be submitted within your application package, as the Chinese Visa will actually have to be stamped inside your passport.

You can visit the nearest Chinese Consulate in person and apply for the Chinese Visa directly. Your account manager will assist you to prepare all the supporting documents for your visa application submission.

Can I have my seat selection on my flight?

Regarding the seat assignment, since we got group tickets, the airline does not allow us to select the seats for free. I am more than happy to assist you with your seat selection, however, there will be a $70/person charge from the airline. It also subjects to the availability of the seats.

When should I apply for the Chinese Visa?

We recommend you to start to apply for a Chinese visa at the time have our travel package received and it is around 6 weeks before your departure and

Will I have any free time during my trip to China?

We understand that this is a major trip for you and your family; we want to show you a real China as much as possible, that’s why you will notice that our daily schedules are full. Having that said, that does not mean you will not have a free time of your own to explore the city. For example, in Beijing, you will have a half-day to do the shopping yourself, each day after dinner. If you still feel like it, you can also explore the city on your own. Usually, for locals, the real-life actually starts after dinner, shops in China close very late at night.

What is the most appropriate type of luggage to bring?

We strongly recommend bringing a backpack or duffel bag, as suitcases can be cumbersome and difficult to store in buses, under seats, etc. Keep in mind that you will normally have to carry your own luggage on and off buses and trains and up and down hotel staircases. Suitcases with wheels may not work well on dirt or cobblestone roads.

What clothing should I pack for one of your adventures?

We always recommend packing as light as possible however the specific requirements for your tour will vary widely depending on where and when you are traveling. Our ‘Trip Details’ document includes a suggested packing list and these can be downloaded from each individual trip summary page. The checklist is tour specific and based upon the experience of our ground staff.

Can you help arrange my travel visas?

Requirements for travel visas vary widely depending on your nationality and your destination. Although we are unable to arrange visas on your behalf we have provided links on our “Visa” page to websites that will help you determine if visas are required. If you do require a visa you can arrange them yourself or use the services of a travel agent or visa processing company.

What vaccinations are recommended for this adventure?

It’s important that you receive the most accurate and up-to-date travel health information for the region you will be visiting. The only one qualified to provide you with this advice is your family physician or a specialist from a Travel Health clinic.

How many people can join a tour?

We keep our group sizes low so you have the freedom to move around and get involved with your surroundings, as well as more personal attention from our local guides. This intimate size ensures that your group will not crowd your experience. You can expect up to 30 travelers on a trip but the average is 20.

I’m a single traveler, will I be charged a single supplement?

Most of the tours have an optional single supplement or rarely a mandatory single supplement. Which mean you could enjoy your own room during the trip.

Can you provide me with a list of the hotels we will be staying at?

Starting and ending hotels are listed on your travel voucher and in the Trip Details document. We use a variety of hotels en-route and so a complete list of hotels won’t be provided until two weeks of your departure date.

Can I join a tour late or leave it early?

It’s extremely difficult if not impossible to join a tour after it has begun. It is possible to leave a tour early however you will be responsible for your own arrangements from the moment you decide to leave the tour. You would also be responsible for all costs associated with joining a tour late or leaving one early. If you feel this may be necessary, please consult our Specialist before you book your adventure.

Are airport transfers included?

Most of our tours are including airport transportations, please refer to each of our adventure detail pages to verify.

What type of ground transportation is used on your tours?

Trip specific information on transportation can be found on the trip summary page however in most cases we use public transportation. We’ve found that how you get there significantly influences the tone of your journey and public transportation allows face-to-face interaction with the local people. Most adventures in Africa, use private transportation.

Who are my traveling companions?

For privacy reasons, we cannot provide you with advance details on your traveling companions. However, our tours appeal to a wide range of travelers, most of whom share an adventurous spirit and a desire to experience these destinations at a grass-roots level. Our tours are conducted in English and so they attract many travelers from North America.

Can I book extra nights of hotel accommodation before or after my tour?

Yes, in most cases we can arrange additional accommodation at our starting or ending hotels. Please contact a Craneline Specialist for price information. If we are unable to provide you with the extra nights, we will give you the name of a hotel you can contact directly. Please also note that extra accommodations must be booked outside of 30 days of departure.
